George White Elementary School Reviews

To the previous poster that said, 'The teachers work during school hours, and don't want to work overtime!': I'm sorry you've had a bad experience, but that statement is bunk. The teachers at GW are terrific and don't just work 'during school hours.' If you were on campus afterschool, you would see that by just surveying the parking lot, the teachers are there for at least an hour and a half afterschool. There are some teachers that even tutor students afterschool. Even given that, their work doesn't end when they leave the campus. Teachers do the majority of grading assignments and prep at home. There were a couple of days this year were teachers 'worked to the contract' because of the situation in the district. It was limited to those days. The teachers here are the best of the best. I personally saw teachers prepping in their classrooms over spring break.

I have a children currently attending this school, and in the process of looking into private schools. The principal tells you what you want to hear! The teachers work during school hours, and don't want to work overtime! This may be tied to Capo USD problems! Hard to beleive most parents that I talk to are in the dark with the district problems. A unfortunate time to be in this district!

We have had three kids go through George White Elementary school. We moved to this neighborhood because we had heard it was a great school. It has been simply the best educational experience for our kids. Great teachers, great parents, and a wonderful principal. After being a part of the school for 9 years we will miss is it! We feel our kids have been prepared well for Middle & High school. Go GW!

Even with all of the CA budget cuts and INCREASED class sizes, the teachers still give the students personalized attention and really seem to care.

I can deeply brag about my childrens school due in a large part to the dedication of the staff, volunteers, and working parents that give so much of their time to make sure their children are off to a great start in life. I have seen first hand, as a parent volunteer, how teachers have taken the time to organize study groups and center activities to reach out to different learning styles of the students. The teachers and staff go that extra mile to get everyone involved in the daily learning. I like to brag that my children go to George White because most often people in the community will have had an awesome experience with their childrens education provided by the public school system, Capistrano Unified School District.

The teachers fight for our kids' education no matter what is happening with the CA budget crisis. The teachers rally the kids to do their best now and for their future. I couldn't ask for a better group of teachers. And, since I have three kids who have been at George White for 3 years, I have been impressed by 9 teachers and looking forward to working with more to give my kids the best spring board for their future.

Parents and PTA are amazing but prinicipal needs to retire. Question whether kids come first in decision making by staff and prinicipal.

The teachers have built a community here that can be felt immediately. I have a daughter in 3rd grade, and I have been extremely happy with each of the teachers she's had. She is always prepared for the next grade and loves going to school.

Teachers - some are really good; some are out of the touch...don't know kids and need to brush up on child development. Expectations are high, but for parents, as most kids are not able to handle the workload on their own. We noted teachers making loads of mistakes and not being held accountable for it! Again, it's a teacher-focused school rather than student.

I love this school. My son is a Kindergartener here and the staff is great from his teacher to the principal. Any questions they have always responded right away and taken care of everything. The teachers are great and my neighbors with older kids are also always raving about how much they like GLW. It's great!

This is a good school with wonderful teachers and great academics. But missing is some of the fun that we had as kids... like Halloween Parades.

This is a great school. Expectations are high of both the children and the parents. The parents are expected to work in the classrooms and do a lot of the actual teaching not just filing papers. The teachers are masters at delegating and are not shy about asking for what they want from the parents. The principal, Mr. Spelber, is a gifted educator and wonderful leader. Watch for egos and politics; this school is a minefield of both. All in all this school is a great experience for families who stay involved by participating and volunteering in their child's education.
